Biologics are genetically engineered proteins derived from human genes. They are designed to inhibit particular components of the immune system that play pivotal roles in fuelling inflammation, which is a central feature of rheumatoid arthritis.

The pathophysiologic rationale for, and clinical application of, Biologic agents in the management of autoimmune diseases, cancers, or other pathologies where a molecular target can be identified.
